Designing for Wonder: A Note on Children’s Spaces

Designing for Wonder: A Note on Children’s Spaces

This Mother’s Month, I’ve been reflecting on the spaces we create for our children—not just how they look, but how they feel. Being a mom means learning to see the world from their height, and shaping environments where imagination rests and childhood feels at home.

It always begins with them. We start by understanding their needs—how they play, rest, move, and grow. Then we listen: to the colors they love, the stories they tell, the treasures they hold dear. That’s where design begins.

From there, we shape spaces that are not only beautiful but intuitive—thoughtful, honest, and entirely theirs. Materials are soft and warm, layouts allow for both movement andstillness. Function always leads. In a child’s room, beauty means little without purpose. Smart storage brings not just order, but a sense of independence and calm.

Designing for children is about presence. It’s about creating worlds where they feel seen, safe, and truly at home.

Each room reflects the child it was made for—each one different, each one full of love. And for me, as both a mother and designer, that is the greatest joy of all.
